While it may be time consuming to open up the CPU of your computer, most of the problems that you encounter with your PC doesn’t require you to open the CPU case. Hardware problems can be taken care of just as easily as it may sound. Like when your connection to the internet is suddenly dropped or lost. You might be tempted to scrap your modem and buy a new one. When all you need is a simple tweak through windows. Sometimes the modem gets overloaded with too much data influx. What you do is, click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel and click Modems. Select Properties dialog box’ General tab. It will highlight your existing modem. click Properties. You’ll see the Maximum Speed drop down list. Click on the next setting lower than your original setting. this will surely affect the the speed of the modem but at least it will keep your connection intact, without dropping.

Like the motherboard, there are certain beeps that signals error with the graphics card. It is very hard to determine though, because some of these codes pertain to problems with the system memory. A sound of ONE long beep and TWO short beeps, this would indicate a problem with the graphics card possibly connected with a fault from the memory. First thing to do is check the connections by re inserting the card into the socket. If you have a spare graphics card in hand, try inserting it in the socket. This is one way of checking which of the hardware is defective. Resource conflict can also be a factor. It simply means that your graphics may be working just fine but the system is not allowing it to function because there is another application using the same resource. Find out how to resolve this by clicking on Resource Conflict Troubleshooter.

Data backup is the act of ensuring your important information (which could be customer contact details for a business or cherished photos for a home user) isn’t only stored in a single place, which leaves it vulnerable to being lost through damage or theft. Since a backup system contains at least one copy of all important data, the risk of total data loss is minimized. And any data loss does not result in a total standstill of the business or heartache for the home user. Using the backup data, the system can be restored and normal service resumed.
Finding the right data backup solution can be confusing. It depends on what to backup, how to backup and what type of computer or network is being used. It might sometimes seem difficult to choose the right backup solution. Not because they are difficult to find, but because there are so many of them.

It is true that not many people know how to tinker with their computers which doesnt mean that one cannot handle minor repairs. Repairs and preventive maintenance such as cleaning can be carried out by you and me with the most elementary of cleaning tools and a little elbow grease to go with them. First, to ensure you experience less problems try to get the computer CPU cleaned at least once a year. If you live in a dusty environment or if you have a Fido or Fifi in he house then this might become a regular routine. Before you take off the cover which is normally screwed down ( be sure to check for any warranty seals on the casing, breaking them would void the warranty terms) with four Phillips type screws be sure the power chord is removed and all devices are unplugged from the respective connections (tip: if you assume that you wont be able to return all those wires to the proper places, get hold of your camera phone or digital camera and take a few shots as a visual record). Slide the cover off to get a glimpse of the innards of your personal computer.

Did your personal computer or laptop just don’t “act” the way it was before? Did something go wrong, though you are not really sure what, but you hope that it will run correctly like it did yesterday? Sounds almost impossible unless you go to a service center and demand the repairman to bring it back to the way it was, possible, though it will cost so much. Maybe you should tinker with your gadget a little more, so you will discover the relief System Restoration brings. When you use System Restoration, your operating system will be supple enough to go back to a starting point that the user have configured. Because every change that programs and applications go thru, gets recorded in System Restoration.

You got to love that smell of new laptops or computer, straight from the box together with the styrofoam and the bubble plastic that kids love to pop. And you know what else loves your brand new operating system?: Viruses. Once you plug in that brand new computer to connect into the internet, viruses are just waiting for you to get connected and in 30 seconds or less, here comes the internet virus worms faster than any real living earth worm. Who’d want that to their new laptop or personal computer? Nobody, so why don’t you enable your firewall or install anti-virus software.

“Microsoft and the Windows team have done something a little different with the Vista firewall. They have separated the firewall in to two different interfaces. The default interface is the basic one. At first glance, it looks identical to the Windows XP SP2 firewall. This basic interface is ON by default and loads basic settings for normal user protection. In most cases, this basic setting should work fine. Then they added an Advanced interface for the more security savvy individuals. This Advanced interface gives a greater flexibility over the firewalls settings.”
Don’t get too discouraged by rumors, read the facts first and you might just find out how untrue what they are saying about Windows Vista Firewall. You are going to find it useful after all.

Windows Vista owners have often said that the Windows Vista Firewall….. is a dud. Yes, they say that Windows Vista firewall is usless. It may be just the Vista users having tantrums or it may true, nevertheless, this can have a tremendous effect on Window’s credibility on future products so here are the facts from http://www.toejumper.net/
“No third party software can lay claim to the fact that the Windows Firewall starts its protection once the computer is turned on. Is that important you ask? Absolutely. If a capable malware program could turn itself on at the same time that the computer starts to boot, common sense would dictate the danger of this. Now, knowing the fact that the Vista firewall ‘does’ start at boot, we need to confidently know that it is going to protect from boot.”
